Aviation Research Topic

Hey everyone!

Today I spent some time looking around at some topics for my research paper. Being a Professional Pilot major, I spent some time looking around for topics in aviation. The two things that interested me most were security in aviation (It’s my life on the line up there) as well as the effect that September 11, 2001 has had on the aviation industry. I decided to go with aviation security and the measures that have been taken to protect pilots up in the cockpit. There are a multitude of programs put in place by the FAA and TSA to help protect pilots post 9/11. There is a ton of information on these programs available from the TSA website: http://www.tsa.gov/about-tsa/september-11-2001-and-tsa

The Oklahoma State library website wasn’t too terribly hard to navigate, but it did require a little digging around because my major isn’t specifically listed on the main research topics list. However, once you find the Aviation Education topic site, it offers many tips for research such as terms to know, databases to use, and bibliography software to help cite sources. Some of the databases commonly used for aviation research are the Air University Library Index and the Web of Science. The most popular website for aviation research is AvWeb, which provides a multitude of information from aircraft accident reports to updates on the lastest technology in aviation. An expert in the aviation field authors every article on AvWeb, ensuring that it is accurate information. The librarian assigned to assist in aviation research is Karen Morris.

  1. I think Aviation Security would be a pretty interesting topic to read about. I would love to hear the changes made post- 9/11 and the upcoming advancements in the near future. Sounds like the TSA website will be very helpful if this topic is chosen.
